The island Symi

Symi (58 square kilometers) is only 1 1/2 hours away from Rhodes by sea (daily connections). The ships start at the Mandraki harbour. It is possible to go there in the morning (9 o'clock) and return to Rhodes late afternoon the same day. You can also stay there overnight, because there are some small hotels and rented rooms in the island capital.
The harbour bay "Gialos" is very beautiful and reminds you of a small fjord in Norway. It is well the most beautiful harbour of all of the Aegean Sea.

The way to the top of Symi

379 steps lead up to the upper district. The way is, particularly in summer, exhausting, but you are compensated for the effort with a magnificent view. Here it is very quiet since most tourists remain below at the harbour and the nearer environs.

Wonderful views

Almost all ships make a short stop (1-hour) at the monastery Panormitis. The present church was built in 1783, the bell tower 1905. In the complex of the monastery you also find a small museum.
